Mackie Hill J & I School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. To achieve our commitment, we will ensure continuous development and improvement of robust safeguarding processes and procedures that promote a culture of safeguarding amongst our staff and volunteers.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Safeguarding Policy which can be viewed in the 'Safeguarding Documents' tab.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.
We follow the council’s Safer Recruitment Policy and the Department of Education guidance: ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’.
As a result our staff recruitment policies and practices are rigorous. We always pursue identity checks and qualification checks and we take up and scrutinise written references before employment.
We require evidence of an enhanced disclosure certificate before employing any staff, in addition to pursuing List 99 checks.
All voluntary helpers, supply teachers, agency staff, after-school club and coaching staff are required to provide evidence of enhanced disclosure certificate.
